Artist Statement
Daniel’s work values presence over performance.
Daniel Silbert has always been drawn to the art of the fleeting moment. First through music, where he spent a decade on stage with his band Steel Train, and later through the lens of a camera. The transition felt natural; both ask the same thing of you, to be fully present, to feel deeply, and to capture something true before it slips away.
Daniel works in both film and digital, though his heart belongs to film. From his personal darkroom in Nyack, New York, he develops, scans, and prints his own work by hand, a deeply intentional process that treats each image as an object worth holding. For Daniel, photography is not about staging or directing; it's about moving quietly through the world, watching, and waiting for the moment that reveals itself.
Home for Daniel is Nyack, New York, where he lives with his wife Erin, their children Alfie and Millie, and three dogs who remind him daily that the best moments are never planned. They are his anchor, and the quiet reminder of why capturing life's fleeting moments matters so much.
